We use quality, easy to use, 10mm 14k gold filled or solid .925 sterling silver lobster claw clasps to finish our necklaces and bracelets unless otherwise noted in the listing.
Toggle Clasps
Select pieces, such as our “Sweetheart” bracelet, are finished with quality 14k gold filled or solid .925 sterling silver toggle clasps.
Earring Components
It is important to us that when you wear our jewelry you are comfortable in it. Many people are allergic to base metals and need hypoallergenic earrings. To accommodate this need, all of our sterling silver finish hooks, hoops, ball posts, and earring backs are solid .925 sterling silver. All of our 14k gold finish hooks, hoops, ball posts, and earring backs are 14k gold filled.
Gold or Silver Illusion Wire
We use the highest quality silver or gold plated illusion wire in our illusion bridal jewelry. The beauty of this fine wire is unsurpassed by any other beading wire on the market. The ultimate in softness, strength, and flexibility, this wire is plated in lustrous sterling silver or gleaming 24k gold with a thin, smooth layer of crystal clear nylon covering the wire to prolong strand life, create beautiful drape, and prevent kinking.
The stainless steel core provides the strength of the wire. While a pure sterling silver option is manufactured, we choose to use stainless steel core wire, with the same lustrous look, for the lasting durability of your jewelry.
In purchasing illusion wire jewelry, it is important to know what type of wire will be used as there are several degrees of quality on the market.
Clear Illusion Wire
Our clear illusion wire is an ultra thin, .25mm, monofilament that lends the illusion that crystals and pearls are “floating” on your skin. Floating necklaces, bracelets and earrings are a popular choice for brides and bridesmaids necklaces. Clear illusion wire is light, strong and comfortable to wear. When ordering jewelry in clear illusion wire, you will choose sterling silver or gold fill finish for clasps, crimp beads and earring components.
Crimp Beads
When we create our illusion wire jewelry, Swarovski crystals and pearls are held in place using specialized crimp beads that give the illusion that crystals and pearls are “floating” on the wire. These crimp beads are designed to match in materials to compliment our sterling silver and 24k gold plated 49 strand beading wire.
We use the finest, tiniest (size “0” 1.3mm) crimp beads available for the body of each piece, and a slightly larger (size “1” 2mm) crimp beads for the connections. Our crimp beads are smooth with rounded edges for the beauty of the piece and the comfort of the wearer.
.925 Sterling Silver and 14k Gold Filled Wire
Some of our pieces, such as Chandelier designs, call for thicker wire. In these pieces we use .925 sterling silver or 14k gold filled 21 gauge half hard wire.
What does “Gold Filled” mean? Is it different than gold plating?
Gold filled jewelry is considered a life-long product. It is composed of a solid layer of gold that is permanently heat and pressure bonded to surround another metal such as sterling silver or brass, and will not wear off, as it will in plated or electroplated products. Gold-fill is 50 to 100,000 times thicker than gold plating, and up to 25,000 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate.
Gold filled jewelry has the same strength, durability and beauty of solid gold. It wears, looks, and lasts like solid gold because its outer surface is solid gold. As a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry.
Metal Findings
Occasionally for a special touch or dramatic effect we add fine quality cast findings to our jewelry that are not sterling silver or 14k gold fill. This is either because they would be very costly, shooting prices way up for you, the buyer, or because they are simply not manufactured in sterling silver or 14k gold fill. Typically, we use Tierra Cast findings such as distinctive spacers or decorative chandelier earrings links. Tierra Cast is a premium quality product that uses a high base metal that wears very similarly to and blends beautifully with sterling silver components making it an excellent complement to our jewelry.
