Wedding Color Scheme

You may have a wedding color scheme in mind, but you need to iron out the details before you, your mom, wedding planner, friends, and bridal party take off and run with it. Getting a clear idea of what colors you want and acceptable variations will make your planning infinitely simpler.

Get Organized: Make a wedding color scheme binder with a page or section for each detail of your wedding where color choice will apply.

Don’t be "Outmatched": Coordinating the various aspects of your wedding is important, however over-matching can be a bad thing. When you go all out with one shade of one color in every corner of your wedding, the result can be a bore. Ever seen Steel Magnolias? Sally Field was right on the money when she said “That sanctuary looks like it's been hosed down with Pepto-Bismol.” It’s perfectly fine to have a “signature color” and run with it, but making the theme monochromatic by choosing two or three varying shades of that color, or adding touches of a complimentary color or two can move your wedding color combinations from bland to grand.

To Trend or Not to Trend: Modern weddings are featuring a vast array of fun and funky new styles. Picking wedding colors in unusual or bold combinations like zebra and hot pink or lime and raspberry, is trendy today. If you and your groom have the natural inclination to be edgy and trend, go for whatever feels fantastic. Do keep in mind, though, that photos are forever. Your wedding color theme may be enjoyed in person for a day, but it will be immortalized forever on film in your wedding album and on your walls, so make sure that your wedding color scheme is one you want to see forever.
