Wedding Colors
In days past, wedding colors were much simpler. White was the watch color of the day, most often accented by a pastel hue of the brides choosing. A procession of bridesmaids in baby pink, cornflower blue or mint “step by stepping” down the aisle was the hallmark of a dream wedding. Now, color in weddings is an expression of individuality and personality. From blush to bold, you can be assured the modern bride will choose colors that shout, “Here I am, this is me!” The modern bride sees her wedding day as that one special day when she gets to showcase to her friends, her family, and the world at large just who she is and how beautiful she can be.

You have only to open up a bridal magazine to see that the old restrictions on “acceptable” colors for weddings no longer apply. Bold as brass, eye popping color combinations are in for the adventurous bride, while classic black, muted moss greens, and varied mocha toned neutrals are making more modern, but conservative color scheme statements.
Contrast in color is not only acceptable, but is the popular choice in weddings this year. We are seeing color blocking with bold opposites like raspberry and navy or deep plum and lime. Empire-waist bridesmaid’s gowns with high contrast between the bodice and skirt are all the rage. A twist on a classic, the little black dress trimmed in a high contrast color such as ruby red or purple, is a definite hit.

On the flip side of the trendy coin, barely-there colors are making a comeback. Shades of not-quite-white lend an ethereal sophistication to many weddings today. Blush, creamy dreamy barely-there blues, and palest pinks are the clear choice for brides who prefer a more demure, feminine color scheme.
